Ways for Small businesses to handle Advertising Temptations

June 13th, 2009

Summary:
The times you expect it least are usually when temptation tends to stare you in the face. Just reading or hearing about the phenomenal results of others with advertising methods can cause temptation to rear its ugly head. In addition, it can come at times when a salesperson is offering you one of their great deals. Additionally the ease of use and hopes to get the similar results of others brings forth temptation.

Those that are small business owner, tend to always get drawn into new techniques and advertising ideas. New things people hear about, tends to boost the mind in the forward direction. This especially applies to things like testimonials, since they appear realistic and relating to current things, you are doing.

To help you understand, I want you to visualize a salesperson at your business. They are trying to sell you something and telling you that it is a great deal. Now you have temptation knocking at your door, so what do you do?

These three things you should ask yourself in order to evaluate the proposal made to you:

1. Take a step for a moment and think about whether currently your advertising is covering your general needs. The tempting new proposal part of your basic advertising, or is it going on to the next level? Always remember that you have to cover the basics first before you go any further. It is just like a store, you have to decorate it first before you can open. So, make sure to get all the basic advertising done before trying to go any further.

2. When it comes to generating profit, does the new technique or idea look as something that will stand on its own? Is it something that you can integrate into your basic advertising so that it will compliment what you are currently doing? Will this add as a contribution in building a cumulative advertising effect?

3. Is this something you can afford? At this point, are you already straining your present advertising budget? Is it something that will pay for itself, or break the bank?

You are probably still wondering whether temptation is worth listening to, well depends. Answering the above three questions honestly will help guide you in the right direction. Then you will know when the time comes for you to move forward onto the next level.

Advertising balloon with helium in equality

June 11th, 2009

Join the cause with advertising balloons with helium for equality. Equality still today does not exist completely. There are those that do not have the same advantages as others, therefore not having the same chance for opportunity as their counterparts.

Advertising Balloon with helium, so what does that mean? As you read, the answer will come. Personally, I am from the old school even today around those only concerned with their own self-preservation and among the many that adhere to the Washington consensus. I’m old fashioned in the way I believe that all are the same and should be equal. It does not mean that I think everything should be black and white, with everyone in matching suits.

At this point and time, the playing field still does not seem all that level. Everyone should have a fair shot when it comes to playing the field. By this, I mean leveling out the playing field so that there is equal opportunity for all. There are other things too, but right now, my main concentration is the measures to take for respect and equal opportunity, which means equality. I always keep this in mind when trying to approach others.

I tend to feel that everyone has something to share with the world and that is what they have to share is positive. Unless things are proven otherwise, this is the way I like to approach things. Throughout my life, I have spent time with many different kinds of people. Some wealthy people are the most caring and intelligent people you will ever meet. Others who are not as fortunate can give the best lessons in life. Among those, that I have had experiences with they taught me a lot about life through the wisdom they hold, along with a great sense of humor and a lot of patience.

These experiences are the reason I like balloons. I see them as symbolical of an activist for equality among the world of advertising and toys. As you may have realized, most advertising gimmicks and toys have been associated an element of society in one-way or another. On the other hand, balloons do not.

The prices of balloon have stood the test of time, remaining remarkably low even today. Despite there low prices, balloons are alluring to kids for their parties, whether they are rich or poor. Even at the middle school age, kids are still putting messages of goodwill in balloons and letting them go for people who are unknown to them. Balloons on another note, are very important to Columbian mules that count on them as part of businesses of import and export.

Truly, if you believe in equality get advertising balloons with helium. What I mean is drop your play station or Homies and get some balloons. Use balloons as a way to advertise equality. Advocate liberty, solidarity, and land, through balloons.

Low-cost advertising for those on a budget — Frequency is key

June 8th, 2009

The most important point discussed throughout this article will be frequency. Here you will find some illustrations of the marketing challenges encountered by a small business PrescottWeddings.com. They demonstrated a way to get a ton of exposure to your target market, by only spending a $100 a month and here you will find out how.

Even if you never remember another thing about marketing, just remember this: Frequency takes all. Repetitive exposure of your name in front of current and potential customers makes sales more likely. Various studies suggest that a person needs to see your message three to 27 times before they are inclined to act on it. When you are trying to brand the name of your business, then you need to get your message to customers as many times possible.

Campbell Soup, Ivory Soap, and Tide are all common household names. These companies built up their brands so to ingrain them into our minds, and how did they do it? Repeatedly through the years, they continued to advertise. Through frequent advertising they made it, so their brand was the first thing you thought of when thinking of soup, soap, or laundry detergent. So as these companies have shown, frequency is key to building your brand.

Another benefit of advertising frequently offers is helping you keep current customers. After people make a purchase, they like to know that they made the right decision. The amount of reassurance that the person needs, depends on the amount of money they spent, however all people need some type of confirmation that they made the right choice and your advertising can help.

After people make purchases such as a car, studies have found that people are more aware of car ads, especially if it is for the same model car they just bought. At that time, they are also more likely to approve of and believe the message they see or hear. The reason for this has to do with them wanting to know they made the right purchase.

There are more reasons than one to advertise on a frequent basis. This does not always mean you have to spend a fortune to do so. You will find frequency can come at a low cost after you learn a few tricks of the trade. In this issue were going to discuss print tricks and leave other advertising outlets such as online and radio for future issues.

1. Small ads always cost less, so make adjust ads for a smaller scale size. See “Advertising on a Budget-Part 2: Thinking Small” for some more information on how to shrink the size of your ad.

2. You will find it is more preferable to schedule ads to run at the same time rather than spreading them apart. If people barely see your ad, then they will not remember it. When people see the same ad frequently within the same week, it gives them the impression you advertise all the time, since they don’t remember not seeing your ad on other weeks.

3. Take advantage fully, any frequency programs offered by your newspaper, but don’t run your ads under an open rate. Sign a contract.

And here is what PWC did.

The newspaper we used published six days a week and had a program called “3 for free.” By running an ad three days in a row, you got the next three days free. The ad designed for the paper was tiny, at the size of one by two inch. The ad we ran for six days in a row then skipped the next three-weeks and repeated the same process over again the next month.

PWC had people going to and telling them that they saw their ad all the time after doing this for a year. After seeing the commitment, PWC had to advertising, other businesses wanted to advertise through them. They had brides and grooms visiting them regularly, since they had monthly reminders.

In the end, this only cost them about $100 a month.

But don’t jump the gun. Time builds a business and its brand. This is not something that will happen overnight. Eventually it will as you continue to get your name out there, as much as possible.

How to Landscape Your Own Yard and Save Money

May 29th, 2009

Landscaping basics:

All of us love a garden that has been beautifully landscaped, but affording professional guidance to have our own gardens done is often very expensive. If you cannot afford a landscape designer, you can learn to do it. The Internet is a wonderful source where you can find a large number of ideas and help. Here are some tips for those of you who wish to do it on your own.

Use keywords like ‘landscaping ideas ‘or ‘landscape designs’ to initiate your search. You could even try something like ‘diy landscaping’. Most sites will offer a fair dose of effective tips you can use.

A visit to any plant nursery in your area will offer a lot of information about plants that grow in shade and those that thrive in sunlight. The workers in such places are generally pretty well informed about such things and may even offer better advice than a large well-known department store or a garden center.

You can also get the tools you require at a nursery and advice about how to use them. The right tools will make your gardening tasks easier and struggle free.

While considering landscaping, think of including the following in your gardening space.

• A rock garden. This needs thinking and can be done beautifully with proper designing and planning.

• A fountain. Flowing water is good energy and a fine Feng Shui idea.

• Beds that are raised, especially for flowers.

• A separate area where children can play. Having a sand pit is also a good idea for very young children.

• A pond for water plants. You can add some colorful fish to it.

• A vegetable garden preferably in your backyard. Fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables are a source of immense joy and can add garden fresh flavors and a special touch to any meal.

Ideas for landscaping:

Before starting you will need to take a proper view of the land and its formation. You must remember that any changes you think of effecting should blend well with the surroundings.

Small water bodies like a fountain or a pond will beautify as well as cool surroundings, providing moisture that will help plants to thrive and also encourage animals and birds to visit. Water has a wonderful energy about it that enhances natural beauty when used in the right manner.

Erecting a structure like a trellis or a gazebo will provide shelter against rain. However, keep in mind the size of such a structure so that it can blend with the design of the landscape without affecting the general aesthetic appeal of the garden.

Choosing the right plants for landscaping:

The following tips may be beneficial in helping you choose the right plants.

If your gardening area is small go for plants that are small and slow on growth too. Fast growing plants will prevent smaller plants from growing and this could mar the beautiful effect you have in mind and hope for.

If you are an avid gardener and love to spend time outdoors indulging in this very satisfying hobby, it’s okay to choose plants that require a lot of care and tending. If not, choose those plants that require minimum care.

Once you initiate your own landscaping, you will soon find that experience is adding to your learning and knowledge once you have got hold of the basics. This will be immensely satisfying and bring a sense of achievement. You will soon be amazed that an arid, barren plot has become a lovely patch of green that is pleasing sight to any beholder and a source of pride to you.

Save Money on Food - Interesting Facts on How to Keep Your Food Fresh

May 28th, 2009

Some time or the other you must have thrown off rotten food from the fridge and felt terrible about the wastage. Here are some tips to help you save money by keeping fruits and vegetables fresh and making them last longer.

We never really bother about the temperatures in our fridge. Ideally it should be maintained between 32F and 41F. If the temperature is too warm food will go bad under bacterial attack and if too cold then icicles will form in the food.

Fresh vegetables and fruits should have air circulating round them to help them stay fresh. This also prevents them turning soggy from sweating. Do not store in packaged plastic in which they are purchased.
Here are some tips for storing fruits and vegetables.

Apples:
Throw out rotten, blemished ones. They could contaminate the good ones and cause them to rot.

Lettuce:
Lettuce stays fresh if stored in a loose large plastic bag. To revive lettuce leaves that have gone limp, remove a thin slice of its stem and store in a container of ice-cold water. Each leaf can be sprinkled with cold water, wrapped up in a tea towel and stored in the refrigerator for about an hour. This will keep them fresh.

Carrots, turnips and beetroot:
Remove the leaves to avoid them drawing nutrients from roots. Store in cold dry place that is dark and well ventilated.

Celery:
Celery will stay well if stood upright on its stalk in a tumbler of water and then placed in the fridge. It can lose flavor immediately on washing.

Lemons:
Place cut lemons with cut side downward keeping them under an inverted glass on top and in a place that is cool.

Mushrooms:
Mushrooms remain fresh if stored in a place that is dark and cool. Do not store in the fridge. Wipe dry and keep on a paper towel to store longer.

Onions:
Onions remain fresh if stored in wire racks, keeping bulbs apart to encourage air circulation and thereby prevent rotting.

Potatoes:
To keep potatoes from sprouting store them with apples in a cool dry place. If you are peeling them for cooking, peel only as many as you need and put them in water till you cook to prevent them turning brown or place peeled ones in a bowl of water in the fridge till cooking time.

Tomatoes:
It depends on how you prefer your tomatoes, soft or rock hard. Green tomatoes or unripe ones stay fresh when stored in the dark. When exposed to sunlight they will soften instead of ripening. If you wish them to ripen then store in a drawer in a paper bag along with an apple till then turn a pretty rosy red.

If you follow the above tips, you will keep your vegetables and fruits fresh till your next visit to the grocery. You never need to worry about wastage and rotting. The saving will also make you feel happy.

How to Save Money on Hydroponics & Plant Nutrients

Whether you are tending you garden in the normal fashion or using hydroponics, it is wise to make your efforts pay off through the judicious use of cash. You will be able to effect good savings, and can use them for adding more variety to your garden. This will permit you to grow more and yield better results all within a sensible, well thought of budget. You can save on gardening nutrients and those used for hydroponics if you know how to go about buying them.

Here are a few smart ways to do it.

Closely follow directions of the Manufacturer:

Haphazard use of nutrients will result in wastage. It is wiser to first go through the instructions on the packet. Manufacturers after all want their customers to go back and buy their stuff once it has proved useful and hence give elaborate, correct directions about how to use the nutrients, most of which have been carefully determined after systematic testing. They are therefore, the best you could follow, so that nutrients when used judiciously produce optimum results.

Ascertain maximize absorption:

Monitoring the pH levels and temperature of the nutrient solution is one way to find out if the plants are absorbing the nutrients fed to them. The root formation of the plant also requires attention. All these are parameters that will guide your use of plant nutrients. Constantly monitoring and reviewing will help you use the nutrients wisely so that you get the desired results. With proper attention you will save money on all other supplies over and above the saving effected on hydroponic nutrients.

Purchasing through Online sources:

Buying hydroponic nutrients online gets you directly in touch with the manufacturer and saves overheads and may be even on shipping costs. You can affect substantial savings in this way. Time spent shopping is also saved and you have the privilege of receiving things at your doorstep.

Go for Quality:

It is worthwhile realizing that there is a difference in shopping for a price and trying to effect a bargain while buying. Shopping for a price could also entail getting cheap stuff that is low on quality and not as effective in producing the desired results. You will end up using more of the cheap stuff to get results and the yields also may be inferior in quality. If price becomes your focus then you may end up actually losing money, because you are not getting your money’s worth. This could also result in more spending to get results.

It is wiser to focus on the value that the money you spend will bring you. Hydroponic nutrients that are well balanced will give you very good results with minimum use of the product, thus effecting money saving. Even if you spend more to get the right stuff, you save money over a period of time. If you are gardening for profit, it is wiser to choose quality over price, as this will prove more profitable and cost effective in the long run.

How to conduct successful conferences

May 27th, 2009

Conducting Conferences is not an easy job. A lot goes into its organization, presentation including feedback and necessary impact. Some amount of guidance always goes along way in helping to conduct an effective conference. The guidelines that shall be given below can easily be applied to face-to-face meetings or web presentations or even desktop video meetings.

Let us begin by understanding how to design a conference presentation. First and foremost, it is essential to prioritize the top three aims or goals that one wants to achieve with regard to the audience that will be present in the conference. It is imperative that one is totally clear of these aims and objectives that he or she wants accomplished and communicated to the audience present, otherwise more often than not, those that are present fail to get the point of the presentation and then the purpose of the conference at large.

Next, it is necessary to know and understand who the audience comprises of and why they are attending the particular conference. It is natural for the members in the audience to know right away why they were included in the presentation process and this fact must be made very clear to them right at the beginning. This will also aid in clarifying the invitation list and then design the presentation accordingly keeping in mind the pulse of the audience.

Major points of information must be communicated to the audience and also one should see to it that the members are attentive enough and that those points are successfully communicated. Also, it is important to set the tone of the presentation, that is, will it be a tone of hopefulness or celebration or warning or even of that of teamwork. A conscious identification of the tone to one self can help in setting the mood of the audience as well.

Now, it is essential to design a very brief opening for the presentation of the conference which shall lay down the goals of the presentation; it should also clarify the benefits of the presentation to the members of the audience along with the explanation of the overall layout of the presentation. The body of the main presentation of the conference should take up about 70-80% of the total presentation time. The closing must be designed in a manner that it enumerates the major aspects of the presentation. It is advisable to allow for a minimum time for valuable feedback and questions from the members of the audience present in the conference.

The presentation materials also must be given special attention. In the case of a Power Point presentation certain aspects need to be kept in mind. The presentation sequence must be carefully reviewed prior to main conference meeting. The object of carefully syncing the audio with the slide presentation should be successfully met. It is advisable to use a consistent layout or organization of colors and images to make an attractive visual. One should allocate not more than one image to 3 to 5 minutes of the presentation and each image must have a couple of lines of bulleted phrases that clearly define the goal and objective of the presentation in the conference meeting. The audience is very likely to read the supplemented information that is provided than listening to the talks at all times so it is always better to allow for a short break in between the talks to let the members read these bulleted points. Moreover, providing hand-outs of the presentation before or after the presentation is also helpful in establishing the communication of the gals and objectives of the presentation.

There are certain basic guidelines that one should follow during the delivery of the presentation because even though the other aspects of the presentation are impeccable in terms of audio and visual and including the content, the heart and soul of the presentation lies in the delivery and the manner in which it is made by the presenter and his or her convincing abilities.

It is important to maintain eye contact with those present in the audience. It immediately establishes a personal connect that enhances the impact. Looking up from the materials every 5 to 10 seconds is advisable. The trick to effective coherence is speaking slowly and loudly so that each and every word is clear; emphasis must be given on the appropriate and important words and essential points must be repeated to communicate to the audience. The volume, one and modulation of the voice must be looked into. It should be pleasing and not too lecturing as that tends to bring in monotony and thus results in the attention being diverted. Many speakers have the habit of gesticulating a lot that is, moving and waving the hands. This habit must be immediately taken care of as it is very distractive to the viewer. Being calm and composed is top priority.

For video, audio or even web conferences, it is highly essential to use the best quality equipment and services as a poor quality could affect the overall quality of the conference on the whole. Even if the expenses are higher it’s worth the expense for an excellent presentation to a global audience. One must be careful not to be attracted by the fancy features that some of the equipments boast of having. Only those services and equipments should be used that are conducive to the presentation at hand and will be useful for such conferences in the future. Also, one must make sure that it is user friendly and that the equipments are easy to use and technologically sound. This will effectively prevent any kind of technical glitch that could take place during the conference. However, it always best to check the devices and the connections well in advance so that no untoward error takes place that might just ruin the entire presentation especially if the conferencing takes place at a global level. Also, in the case of audio teleconferencing, the participants must be informed well in advance, so that those situated in different parts of the world could come together at the same time and get adequate time to prepare and get their essential materials ready.
